Anecdotal evidence has been found by researchers to demonstrate precisely how coffee, with its solid, distinct fragrance, can act as an indication of lack of scent.
The global supply of coffee will make it an easier test to apply, according to researchers, provided how anosmia is a frequent symptom in COVID situations.
One of the leading experts to make a case for the coffee exam, a Tufts University professor, James Schwob, suggests that it may also serve as an early warning of when to contact the doctor:
“One of the things someone at home can do fairly easily, fairly objectively, would be to take some ground coffee and see how far away you can hold it and still smell it,”
He also indicates that fragrances such as rubbing alcohol, cocoa, or shampoo may do the same thing.
