Global user spending on apps across the App Store & Play Store hit $32 billion in the first quarter of 2021

According to data from app analytics company App Annie, global user spending on software across the Apple App Store and Google Play hit $32 billion in the first three months of 2021.

Last year, the mobile app ecosystem experienced tremendous growth, with weekly time spent on apps increasing by more than 20% in the first three months of the year. Consumer spending, which covers in-app purchases, subscriptions, and premium app downloads, is an app measure.

When compared to the same time last year, consumer spending has risen by 40%. Smartphone consumers are also said to have invested $9 billion more in the first quarter of 2021 than they did in the first quarter of 2020. This year, total app downloads increased by 10% to 31 billion in both app stores. Separately, app spending on iOS increased by 40% year over year to $21 billion.

The overall amount spent on gaming by customers reached $22 billion, with iOS users spending about $13 billion. The most popular games in terms of sales, customer spending, and monthly active users were Join Clash 3D, Among Us, and PUBG Mobile.

Mobile gaming is set to reach $120 billion in consumer spending, according to App Annie.
