Gopi Sundar came out to celebrate the Yuletide spirit with a new song Unneesho

The song, written by lyricist B K Harinarayanan, is crowned by 11-year-old Kannur singer Meril Ann Mathew, who also performs in a music video.

With the Christmas carol music video Unneesho, composer Gopi Sundar came out to celebrate the Yuletide spirit. We used to enjoy door-to-door caroling during my school days. It was a lot of fun, and though the tunes, in Unneesho I tried to catch the same festive mood.

In this, I tried to express the message of celebrating Christmas,” Gopi says, adding that this is perhaps his first production featuring a Christmas carol.

The composer says he kept the orchestration simple yet vibrant. “I feel the tunes can be played with just a keyboard and bongos, so ideally even those who want to go caroling can try this song,” he points out.

The song, written by lyricist B K Harinarayanan, is crowned by 11-year-old Kannur singer Meril Ann Mathew, who also took part in the video. Actor Manju Warrier officially published Unneesho, directed by Yousaf Lensman, on her Facebook page on Thursday (December 24).

The video depicts the exaltation of Santa Claus visiting a young girl who offers her an unneeshood (an infant jesus figurine). She flies around the city with Santa Claus in her imagination, as they meet others who share in the joy. She then goes on to deliver the sweets of Xmas and the little money she receives from sharing the word of joy and caroling to an orphanage.

Yousaf Lensman says they shot the video at Fort Kochi. Singers Zia ul Haq, Akbar Khan, and Sujay Mohan borrowed vocals for support. The music video was released on Gopi Sundar Music Company’s YouTube channel.
