Rahul Gandhi is once again in the headlines. His deep-sea adventure, which took place off the coast of Thangassery harbor in Kollam, Kerala, has gone viral, with the highlight being his jumping into the sea with fishermen. Kerala-based vlogger Sebin Cyriac, who shot the video for his YouTube channel Fishing Freaks, is basking at the moment. Within 24 hours of its release, the video had amassed over 10 lakh views.
“I can’t believe what I’m hearing. It hasn’t reached me yet,” Sebin says, adding that Rahul’s plunge into the sea left the party “shell-shocked.” Sebin says, “I didn’t expect him to really do it because he told me he swims and was a diving instructor during his student days.”
Sebin had been contacted by Rahul’s team in Delhi a few weeks ago to discuss the journey. I obtained confirmation about a week ago. Perhaps the channel’s wide subscriber base (1.66 million) was a factor in my choosing. He adds that the only criteria were that I translate his conversations with the fishermen and that the whole episode be kept true to life.
Outside of his squad, which included his brother, Jino Cyriac, and friend-turned-cameraman, Jobin James, Sebin claims that no one at the harbour or on the boat was aware of Rahul’s arrival. I was looking forward to the element of surprise. Poondimatha, there were 22 fishermen on the ships, and you should’ve seen their faces when they saw him. When he jumped into the sea, they were concerned. According to Sebin, he also had bread and tuna curry, which the fishermen had brought with them for breakfast.
They left in the early hours of February 24 and arrived at 8 a.m. The harbour was overflowing with local residents and media by the time he arrived, according to Sebin. He is overjoyed that Rahul enjoyed the video. Since the video is 23 minutes long, I had my reservations. He is, however, pleased with how it has turned out. The 29-year-old, who hails from Arpookkara in the Kottayam district, launched his channel two years ago.
Last month, the Congress leader was featured on Village Cooking Channel, a prominent Tamil YouTube food channel run by a group of farmers from Chinna Veeramangalam in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukottai district.
